The architect of record was challenged to draw and specify something that would have a traditional appearance while using modern construction techniques and practices. Tradespeople were asked to execute work using ancient techniques and materials rather than their normal practices. Presently, Linden House is home to the second and third generations of the original owners’ family – a lineage of architects.

During the Second World War Linden House was used for various purposes to support the war effort, before reverting back to a clubhouse use in 1946. Lyons remained in occupation until at least 1956 and the building subsequently transferred to Council ownership. By late Victorian times the house became home to St. Katherine's College for Girls and this occupation lasted until at least the outbreak of the First World War. Over time the land was divided into various estates and dwellings such as Seagreens, Upper Mall House, Linden House and Grafton House were built.

The second-generation family undertook a respectful renovation, cherishing the original’s lucidity while broadening its openness and scale. During the 1950s the local Council wanted to relocate the London Corinthian Sailing Club (LCSC) from their old damaged clubhouse downstream. Linden House is a charming four-storey riverside property with elegant south facing façade. Currently used as a sailing and rowing clubhouse, Linden House was purchased in 2001 by the London Corinthian Trust, a registered charity. After William Henry died in 1853, the home slowly fell into disrepair as his wife, Sarah, struggled to make ends meet. She rented out rooms to a handful of boarders, including a freed black barber who rented the glass-paned conservatory for his business. Eventually, the home was bought by Edward Colt, nephew to the famous gun manufacturer. The home passed through several family members’ hands before being bought by William Henry DeWolf in 1835. Because of his efforts, the house still contains much of the original furnishings and ornaments. In the unsteady light, George’s family bustled in preparation for their departure.

Perhaps he remembered acquaintances of lesser status whom he accepted through his side doors.
